Economic Crisis

What are your thoughts on the economic crisis? Should there be a bailout by the government? If the bailout is not passed, what do you think is going to happen? Why are these corporations failing?

My concerns fall on Fannie Mae && Freddie Mac. Why was this governmentally funded corporation not regulated? Why wait until they get over a trillion dollars in debt to do someting?

And how come nobody saw this coming? I mean, I think that some type of precautionary measure should have been taken wayyy before now.

I think the government should have to fix this. If not, soooo many people will be without jobs. I'm not exactly sure what's causing it, but they need to find a solution, QUICK!

Weekend

What all did you do this past weekend? Go to the game in Moultrie? Go to church? etc.

Friday, unfortunately, I stayed home. I didn't get to go to the game, so I listened to it on the radio while watching my brother play. Saturday, I washed cars with the other people that are going to Grad Nite. Later that night, I went to PJ's house, and he cooked for us. After that, we went bowling and Jazz, Corey, I went on a random trip to Wal-Mart.

Sleep

I went to bed at 7 pm last night! I typically don't get in bed until after 11 pm. After a week and a half of revival at church, I was TIRED. I love going to bed early, but seldom do. How late do you typically stay up? Can you tell a difference in your school work when you go to bed early or stay up extremely late? Explain.

I don't go to sleep past 11 if I don't have to. If I can, I go to sleep earlier than that. Only if I have homework, like last night, do I stay up late. I stayed up to 2 last night. The latest I've stayed up is like 4 o'clock.

Army

How did yesterday's Army representatives influence your future choices? Are you now contemplating an army career after high school?

I didn't influence me at all; I still plan to go to college on a academic scholarship. I have no intentions to go into the Army.

Drinking Age

Channel One has recently been talking about the push by some to change the legal drinking age. Should it be changed from 21 to 18? Why or why not? Pros and cons to the change? Read the information

I don't really care. I don't drink, and I don't plan to. If people want to drink at 18, they're going to regardless of whether they limit is at 21 or not. It might cause more accidents and mishaps to lower it, but if a person can serve their country at 18, it's only fair they be able to drink.

Right Track

"Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there."
What does this quote mean to you?

It means you have to pursue your dreams. You have to be persistant and well as ambitious.

Speaker

What was your overall impression of the speaker? Did you enjoy the presentation? Do you think the speaker's presentation will aid you in your post secondary (college, tech, trade school, military, etc.) and career choices? What didn't you like about the presentation? Should Ms. Gay continue having speakers come into our class?

I think he was a nice, honest man. I think having a speaker is nice every now and then just to be doing something different. However, I don't like the idea of having to listen to someone speak every Wednesday; it gets monotonous and boring. They all might have different jobs, but it's typically the same thing: working from 8-5 Monday though Friday. I think it might be a good insight to people if they plan to go into that field though.

McCain's daughter

I discovered John McCain's daughter's blog this morning. http://www.mccainblogette.com/ She is 23 years old and is blogging about her experience on the campaign trail. She is on the verge of possibly becoming the President's daughter. Already she is experiencing being followed around by secret service agents, but that will become a constant part of her life if her dad wins the election. Read some of her blog. It's quite interesting! How would you handle being constantly followed by someone? Would you welcome or resent the protection? Write on paragraph (5 sentences +) describing your thoughts.

I wouldn't mind being in the public eye, but when I have security constantly following me, I'd get aggervated. I wouldn't have any privacy. That'd be pretty annoying. I'd kind of be mad at my dad b/c I would feel like it's his fault. But either way, it doesn't matter b/c she's going to have to deal with it regardless.

911 Dog

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- "Man's best friend" doesn't go far enough for Buddy -- a German shepherd who remembered his training and saved his owner's life by calling 911 when the man had a seizure. And it's not the first time Buddy has been there for owner Joe Stalnaker, a police officer said Sunday. On a recording of the 911 call Wednesday, Buddy is heard whimpering and barking after the dispatcher answers and repeatedly asks if the caller needs help."Hello, this is 911. Hello ... Can you hear me? Is there somebody there you can give the phone to," says the dispatcher, Chris Trott. Police were sent to Stalnaker's home, and after about three minutes Buddy is heard barking loudly when the officers arrived. Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said Stalnaker spent two days in a hospital and recovered from the seizure."It's pretty incredible," Clark said. "Even the veteran dispatchers -- they haven't heard of anything like this." Clark said police are dispatched whenever 911 is called, but that Stalnaker's address was flagged in Scottsdale's system with a notification that a trained assistance dog could call 911 when the owner was incapacitated. Clark said Stalnaker adopted Buddy at the age of 8 weeks from Michigan-based Paws with a Cause, which trains assistance dogs, and trained him to get the phone if he began to have seizure symptoms. Buddy, now 18 months old, is able to press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line, Clark said.Clark said Buddy has made two other 911 calls when Stalnaker was having seizures. He said Stalnaker's seizures are the result of a head injury he suffered about 10 years ago during a military training exercise.Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. Do you have a pet you think could accomplish this?

That's awesome. I really think this is good thing for people of old age or people who have injuries. It helps them get the help they need in an emergency. This could become a big thing in the future if this article gets enough publicity. Then again, it may be too expensive.

Homecoming 2008

Write a pargraph (at least 5 sentences) about Homecoming Week 2008. What was your experience? If you're a Junior or Senior, how did this year compare to last year? Did you go to the parade, game, or dance?

Friday was fun. I'm glad I got to be part of the Homecoming Court experience, whether I won or not. I had fun on the float and on the field. I'm proud of Jaquayla and Terrica, and I'm shocked at how pretty Laken was. It was a nice experience. Things went downhill after Friday night, though, but I still thank God for the good time I did have.

Abandoned

A visitor to Beijing's National "Bird's Nest" Stadium was shocked to find a new-born baby abandoned in one of the venue's toilets, local media reported on Wednesday. The baby, later identified as a girl, was found by a woman around noon on Tuesday at the Bird's Nest, which is currently holding athletics events for the Paralympic Games, the Beijing Times said."The woman told venue staff that there was a newborn baby in the toilet, with blood still on its body," the paper said. Volunteers and staff searched for the mother for two hours to no avail, then sent the baby to a hospital. The baby was in good health and was feeding, the paper said, citing people with knowledge of the situation, but said the whereabouts of the mother remained unclear. Authorities were investigating, the paper said. What are your thoughts on this article? Why do you think the mother did this? Write at least a 5 sentence paragraph expressing your thoughts.

People are crazy this day in time. She obviously didn't want it, but I think its stupid to put the child on the toilet. She could have left it at the hospital, or put it up for adoption. At least the baby's healthy though. And how didn't anybody see the pregnant lady? I mean if the baby had blood on it, the lady obviously had to have it there.

Video Music Awards

Did you watch the MTV's Video Music Award Show on Sunday? What did you think about Britney Spears performing? Who was your favorite performer? Do you watch it for the music or just to see what the artists are going to wear or say? If you didn't watch, why not?
Actually, I didn't watch it, but have just noticed some mention of the award show on every news page on the web...and wonder if Brittney Spears really thinks she can have some kind of great comeback after the world just wondering if she's completely psycho -- shaving her head, drug overdose ER rants, improper care of her kids, etc. I honestly think she's a horrible role model and wonder what MTV is doing promoting her so.

I hate awards shows; they're too long and drawn out just to give out 10 awards. All that excessive performing is unnecessary; all I want to see is who wins, which really shouldn't take more than an hour. On the Britney topic, I think everyone should mind their own business and leave her alone. If that's the way she chooses to live her life, that's her; no one in this world is in any postition to judge her. If all that was going with you, would you want the media constantly publisizing your problems? I know I don't. And she may be a bad role model, but it's not like she's performing at the Kid's Choice Awards; it's the VMA's, everything's risque.

Budget Cuts

I wouldn't normally share such personal and disgusting news *haha*, but last night I was up vomiting. Typically, I wouldn't be here today because I still feel rather sickly, but with the new policy regarding substitutes in place I felt I must come to school today even though I have at least 12 sick days left for the year. If you haven't heard, your teachers will no longer be able to call in a sub due to budget issues at the Board of Education. Instead, the teachers that are at school will have to cover a teacher's class when a teacher is absent. How do you think this will affect your teachers and you?Write at least a 5 sentence response.

I don't like the idea of that at all. I think that puts subs, as well as teachers, in a bad position. && then that means there's no more Mr. Farris. If I was a teacher and I had to teach during my planning, I'd be really annoyed w/ the school system. Instead of cutting subs, I think they should cut something else, like the number of principals at the schools or something.

Blogs

So far, how do you like blogging? State your thoughts in at least 2 complete sentences. Then, make sure you have 14 blogs (no more, no less) posted on your blog. These blogs have to appear when you click "view blog".

It's okay. It gives us something to do to pass time. I just don't like the topics.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate last week. What are your thoughts on his choice? How will it affect his campaign? Do you think Hillary Clinton's supporters will be drawn to McCain since Palin is a female?

I hate politics; I think it's all a big corrupt system. I think using Palin is just a gimmick to get female votes, which isn't going to work out as they've planned b/c of the supporters behind Hilary. She has all her support behind Obama, so if there are women changing party lines to follow Palin, there won't be many. && I think that the Republicans are hypocrites for using Palin. Their biggest argument against Obama was that he was inexperienced, yet they go out and get someone who also lacks experience.

Pregnancy

As everyone has observed, teen pregnancy has been on the rise over the past 2 years. Why do you think this has happened? Is it related to peer pressure? Accidental? Planned? Please write a one paragraph (at least 5 sentences) response. Your response should not include specific people's names or contain graphic or vulgar wording.

I dont't have an opinion. If people choose to take that risk, that's their own fault. If they do it intentionally, I hope they're ready for the consequences. I don't know why the pregnancy rate is rising, but I'm pretty sure it's not because of peer pressure b/c everybody pretty much relies on their own thoughts when making a decision nowdays. I guess they do it to make themselves feel older w/ that type of responsiblilty, idk.
